Alcohol consumption of adults in Australia 2010-2019 by gender
The share of adult Australian men and women who consume alcohol has largely remained at a similar level over the last few years. For men, the share has been in the low eighty percent range every year, and the share of women who consume alcohol has remained in the high seventy percent range. As a result, the combined share has also remained similar, sitting between the figures for men and women and almost always in the low eighty percent range.

In a 2019 survey, 12.8 percent of respondents said they consumed beer, wine, or other alcohol. The same survey also revealed a preference for wine; with 11.8 percent of survey respondents selecting it as their preferred drink of choice. By comparison, 8.9 percent said they preferred to consume beer.

The turnover of the alcohol industry in the country has seen a year on year upward trend; in 2018, it reached 12.14 billion Australian dollars, an increase of around four billion Australian dollars from 2010. Examining beer retail specifically, in 2019 around forty percent of Australian adults said they spent between 26 and 50 Australian dollars per week on beer.
